The CalSTRS Technology Services Branch is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Information Technology Specialist I in the Enterprise IT Solutions & Innovation Division in the Quality Management unit.
The Enterprise IT Solutions and Innovation Division provides solutions development and related support services aimed at delivering and optimizing the CalSTRS enterprise-wide, technology-based solutions to the business. This division works in collaboration with the Project Management, Infrastructure and Operations, Enterprise IT Governance and CalSTRS business areas in the delivery of quality solutions that meet or exceed the business needs of CalSTRS. This division manages and provides oversight to Solution Services, START Solutions Development and Web Solutions Development Units.
The Quality Management unit delivers centralized testing services to Technology Services, working closely with business analysts, project managers, business stakeholders, and vendors to ensure complete test coverage and alignment with requirements. The team drives all aspects of testing, including planning and strategy, test design, developing scripts and data, automation, execution, defect management, and supporting user acceptance testing (UAT).
Under direction of the Quality Management Team Manager, the Information Technology Specialist I acts as the Test Engineer for in-house maintained steady state applications and other custom developed applications supported by Quality Management team for new project implementations and post-rollout, where applications are maintained by Enterprise IT Solutions & Innovation. The Test Engineer demonstrates strong knowledge in multiple testing methodologies, testing tools and related processes. The incumbent is responsible for following the full System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology in testing quality solutions to meet customer needs.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the reduced amounts.

All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.
