Property Accountant

Position Overview:
The Property Accountant will oversee accounting functions for a portfolio of retail properties, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with GAAP. This role requires strong knowledge of tenant recoveries, lease accounting, and percentage rent, while collaborating closely with property management and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain tenant lease sub-ledgers and post A/P invoices, tenant receipts, and miscellaneous bill-backs.
Generate recurring tenant charges, calculate percentage rent, and reconcile tenant recoveries.
Prepare and review monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and accrual entries.
Manage general ledger accounts and reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
Monitor cash activity, collections, and payments including utilities, taxes, and distributions.
Assist with annual budget preparation, audits, and financial reporting packages.
Collaborate with property managers and operations to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Support special projects and serve as a resource to property management leadership.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
3–5 years of property accounting experience, retail or office required.
Proficiency with GAAP, tenant recoveries, straight-line rent, and percentage rent.
Experience with MRI accounting software preferred.
Strong Microsoft Excel and financial reporting skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
